Some National Democratic Congress delegates have indicated their readiness to throw their support behind Mr Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin to win the Presidential slot and subsequently become the President of Ghana in 2020.

Speaking in separate interviews in Accra, a group of Constituency Executives said they had taken their decision, which would fly to get the second Deputy of Parliament to win the slot.

Mr Philip Yankey, an executive member of the Tema East Constituency branch of the NDC said their position was based on reports that so many candidates were lacing their boots to contest for the Presidential slot of the NDC.

The leading opposition party has not opened nominations yet, but has cleared the way for flagbearer hopefuls to campaign, with a letter of intent to the national leadership as the only prerequisite before any hopeful can campaign.

Mr Yankey and the rest of the executives who had apparently just left a meeting in Tema at the time that the interview was granted said Mr Bagbin had already won their personal votes along with at least 85 per cent of the delegates list.

Mr Evans Amarh said their reason for the support for Bagbin was because party executives and delegates had learnt their lessons.

“In 2012, each and every one of us worked to win, but, the party’s own members were neglected like pieces of furniture. Once bitten twice shy,” he said.

According to the executives, another strong ground for the support for Bagbin was because other candidates could easily be beaten by the NPP in 2020.

According to Mr Amarh, Mr Alban Bagbin who commanded so much respect even within the ruling NPP who wished he was not elected for the slot to disturb their easy victory in 2020.
