The Director of Operations of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Nana Ofori Owusu has bemoaned the living conditions of Ghanaians even after 63 years of independence.

According to him, "we are scarred as a people" because “in the early stages of independence, as a Civil Servant, your first year's salary could afford you a brand new car” but now that is not the case.

"The quality of life has gone down . . . we as a people have retrogressed," he emphasized.

Speaking to Kwami Sefa Kayi during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo', Monday, Nana Ofori Owusu said the most important thing is not to organize parades but to better the quality of life of Ghanaians.

"Gathering school children for a parade is not independence . . . we don't have financial independence, we don't have emotional independence, we don't have social independence . . . what we have is called a simile of independence . . . the state has failed the citizens," he said.
