St. Augustine's victory in NSMQ 2019 vindicates Akufo-Addo; our Free SHS will pay off - Sammi Awuku

The National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammi Awuku has commended St. Augustine’s College for emerging winners of the 2019 National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

Sammi Awuku stressed that the success story of the "Augusco" students should not be lost in the memory of young Ghanaians because the school was the least ticked to win the trophy.

He was particularly impressed by the determination and fortitude the contestants showed during the quiz competition as well as the fully charged support St. Augustine's College alumni displayed saying “as human beings it is not good to let our dark past cloud our future…”

Making his submissions on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo", Mr. Awuku believed the tenacity of St. Augustine's is proof of the investments by President Nana Addo in education and so was utterly optimistic the free SHS policy of the government will not be in vain.

“The policy shows that Nana Addo Dankwa's free SHS is spreading equal opportunities to the Ghanaian children…a typical example was the one with St Peters and Tepa Senior High School and Wesley Girls and if you check the result, Tepa won over Wesley Girls SHS.

“We are sowing a seed in Ghana's educational system and in 8 years time, we will see the kind of people we are churning and that’s the only way we can beat on our chest and say that the youth are the future of this country...Education is the only means that the charcoal seller’s sons and the MD of a bank can meet around the same table to share ideas and to compete with it,” he said.

Mr. Awuku added that Ghana should place huge emphasis on practicals stating that "as we are grooming our young ones in Engineering and Maths, then as a country we should consider the practical aspect..."
