Sekondi NPP denies newspaper report

Sekondi Feb 18, GNA - The Executive Committee of the Sekondi Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed its confidence in Papa Owusu Ankomah, MP for the area.

Speaking at a news briefing in Sekondi on Saturday, Mr. Matthew Buah, Chairman of the Committee, said Papa Ankomah who is also the Minister of Education, Science and Sports, had exhibited exemplary leadership qualities since he become MP.

In a reaction to a publication in a national daily on Friday February 16, 2007, captioned "Polling Station Chairmen Advise MP", he described the news item as a falsehood calculated to reduce the chances of the MP for the Presidential slot of the NPP.

He said Mr. Gad Cobbinah who was mentioned in the publication, as an aspiring Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency was not a member of the party.

Mr. Buah said the Polling Station Chairmen reported to have advised Papa Ankomah at a party organised by Mr. Gad Cobbinah were "Ghost names" and could not be traced in the records of the NPP. He advised Mr. Cobbinah and others with political ambitions to respect the constitution of the NPP in the spirit of unity.
