Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament, Sam Dzata George is topping the charts on various social media platforms as a mix-bag of reactions meet government’s decision to reject some findings on the Ayawaso West Wuogon Violence.

The Commission established on February 8 by President Akufo-Addo and chaired by Justice Emile Short, made a full enquiry into the circumstances and events that led to some violence during the Ayawaso West Wuogon elections held on January 31. Results of the findings were presented to the government after which a White Paper was issued by the same.

Government, in its White Paper, declined the commission's proposal to prosecute the National Security operative, Mohammed Sulemana, who slapped the Member of Parliament during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

According to them, “the report failed to address the first and most critical of the terms of reference of the commission.”

“The failure to do so disables government from accepting in whole the findings of the commission,” the White Paper said.

The government also disagreed with the Commission's recommendation that Mr. Suleman be prosecuted for the offence of assault, to wit, the slapping of Hon. Sam George because the facts support a valid defence of provocation for the said assault.

As expected, there are varied reactions to the latest development on the subject.

Whilst many are castigating the government for doing another ‘clearing’, others are empathizing with the MP whom they believe has been treated unfairly.

For some, the move by the government only endorses suggestions that the ruling government is intolerant and only wishes to protect its own.
