A group calling itself Truth and Accountable Governance (TAG), is calling President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to drop the name of Madam Catherine Afeku as Minister designate of Tourism and Creative Arts

The group in a release signed by its executives is alleging that the nominee is a fraudster and as such, should have her nomination revoked in order to save the integrity the president’s nominees.

“Mrs Catherine Afeku and her husband Mr Seth Afeku were found guilty for defrauding American couples on 19-10-2013 by an Accra High Court presided over by Her Lordship Barbara Ackah-Yensu. The trial judge directed the former MP for Evalue-Gwira Constituency Mrs Afeku and her husband Mr Afeku to pay an amount of $ 217,464.00 plus 50% interest to the plaintiffs, Patricia and Bill Gick”

According to the group, such a character should not be allowed to hold such important public office.

“ We also believe that Private Investors both Local and International will not have confidence and trust in the sector if an alleged fraudster is allowed to hold that office. H.E Akufo-Addo being a Lawyer and an anti-corruption campaigner, should have known better. We are calling on him to immediately revoke the appointment of Mrs Catherine Afeku as Minister of

Tourism designate if he wants Ghanaians to believe in his willingness to fight corrupt officials”
