The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on Muslims in the country to pray for peace as part of their Eid ul-Adha celebration as the nation heads to the polls in December.

In a statement signed by the party’s acting General Secretary, John Boadu, the NPP also charged Muslims to pray for the party’s flag bearer Nana Akufo-Addo and running mate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to rescue the country from “sinking”.

“The New Patriotic Party joins hearts and minds with our Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of this year's Eid ul-Adha celebration. We particularly acknowledge their continued fervent prayers for the peace and development of the country, especially on this sacred occasion. By this statement, we also join the Muslim fraternity in the world in marking this year's pilgrimage to Mecca. Our prayer is for Allah to ensure the safety of all the pilgrims throughout their stay there and their return home,” the NPP stated.

The party added: “On this sacred occasion, we encourage our Muslim brothers and sisters to continue with others from different religious persuasions in prayers for the peace of our dear nation, especially as we prepare for this year's presidential and parliamentary elections. While we do so, let us also see it as a divine duty to ensure that all stakeholders carry out their mandate in a manner that will be in the collective interest of our dear country.”

“We are convinced that with Nana Akufo-Addo, our presidential candidate, and his running mate, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, well-positioned to execute the patriotic duty of rescuing our sinking country, you will continue to remember our party in your prayers, to ensure that the change agenda we are set on delivering for the nation comes into reality.”
