People of Edina urged to ensure peaceful election

Elmina July 6, GNA The Minister of Energy, Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, on Tuesday urged the chiefs and people of Elmina to ensure that the current peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the area reflect in this year's general election.

He also asked them to ensure that all chieftaincy disputes were settled, adding that the only way for the area to develop was for them to ensure peace and unity.

Dr Nduom said this at this year's Bakatue festival at Elmina, which marks the end of a month ban on drumming and noise making in the Edina traditional area.

At the Benya lagoon, traditional rites were performed before the Omanhene net was cast three times and in all the three cases some fish was caught signifying that this year there would a bumper fish harvest. Other programmes lined-up for the week-long festival include, cleanup -exercise, regatta, food Bazaar, beauty pageant and grand durbar on Saturday to climax the celebration.

The Minister said the government was able to undertake the numerous development projects in the country because of the current peaceful atmosphere it was enjoying and asked them to continue to live in peace and harmony.

Dr Nduom said no particular district can benefit from any meaningful development if there was no peace and unity and commended them for ensuring an incident free festival .

Among those Present at the ceremony were Dr Jack Ellis Maconga, Mayor of Georgia USA, Mr. Kwamina Essilfie Adjei Presidential Advisor, Nana Ato Arthur District executive of KEEA and Mr Muniru Arafat Nuhu District Chief Executive of Cape Coast Municipal Assembly.
