Parliamentary candidates for Hohoe-North trade promises

Hohoe (V/R), Nov. 19, GNA- Parliamentary Candidates in the Hohoe-North Constituency have traded promises on how they intended to develop the area if they were giving the mandate in Election 2004 to represent the constituents in Parliament.

Mr John-Peter Amewu of the New Patriotic Party; Mrs Fortune Abusuasem of the People's National Convention, Mr Linus Fianyo of the Convention People's Party and Mr Philip Afeavo, an Independent Candidate, were speaking at a public forum organised by the District Civic Union, a non political organisation.

Mr Prince Jacob Hayibor of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not attend the function.

All the four contestants promised to engage contractors to improve the road network in the Constituency and reverse the competitive bidding procedure that most often paved the way for the lowest bidder to win contracts.

They also told the constituents about their individual abilities to provide school infrastructure; water and sanitation facilities; libraries, skill training and the institution of various endowment funds.

Incidentally none of the candidates spoke about the primary constitutional responsibility of Members of Parliament as lawmakers.
