Our voters register is always credible - NDC Director

The Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said the voters register to be used for the up-coming General Elections has no fault to be talked about.

“The voters register for this country is always credible, because our trend of voting is through the electronic means where ones thumbprint cannot be changed for the other.”

He said the voters register is bloated because the country has no mechanism of taking out names of the dead automatically.

“The register will continue to be bloated as and when people die, therefore there would be no need for a new register, and this does not mean the register is not credible - it is credible but bloated due to the death rate every now and then,” he added.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo noted that the EC’s new principle of dealing with individuals who report names of persons who should be out of the register is very laudable, as the must prove above reasonable doubt that their charge is indeed true.

Also, persons who want to challenge names they believe must be out of the register, would have to fill a challenge form, send it to the registration review committee to be chaired by a magistrate, who would let the final truth to be known.

He told Kwame Nkrumah Tikesie on Okay FM’s morning show.

He said the EC would have a credible register after the revision of the voters register which would be held soon.
