Newly elected parliamentary candidate for Yilo Krobo on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey has vowed to leverage on his party’s political fortunes in the constituency to retain its parliamentary seat in the area.

Mr. Nyarkotey speaking in his first media interview after the primaries on Saturday, 8th February, 2020 said his aim was not only to win the parliamentary seat in the December elections but to win by the biggest margin ever in the Yilo Krobo constituency.

“I’ll deliver the NDC’s biggest electoral victory and win the parliamentary seat and by the biggest margin ever in the history of the constituency,” said a confident Mr. Nyarkotey at his residence at Trom, a suburb of Somanya.

Albert Tetteh Nyarkotey, a first time contender, beat Michael Ologo who was seeking to be third time lucky.

Debunking allegations of his alleged affiliation with the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Nyarkotey who describes himself as a card-bearing member of the party, recounted his several contributions to the development of the party in the constituency and dates his membership with the party back to 2006.

He attributed his victory to his hard work and close association with the grassroots of the party, adding that his victory was an overture for a bigger NDC victory in the December, 2020 general elections.

He called for unity among the executives, delegates and supporters of the various candidates or aspirants during the primaries to come together under one umbrella for a united victory in 2020.

The procurement and energy expert was elected as the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary candidate for the Yilo Krobo constituency in a controversial election which had seen a number of postponements after petitions challenging Mr. Nyarkotey’s eligibility emerged.

He polled 604 votes to beat his fierce and only contender, Michael Ologo who garnered 559 votes to clinch victory in Saturday's primaries held at Sikaben amidst heavy security presence.

Mr Nyarkotey in his victory speech congratulated his contender, Michael Ologo, for the fierce contest and promised to work hand in hand with him for the common good.

He assured the party of deploying all resources at his disposal to retain the Yilo Krobo parliamentary seat for the opposition NDC.

"I am prepared to work with Mr. Ologo, Andrews Soda, the party’s executives and the entire supporters so we can win the Yilo Krobo seat in December”, Mr. Nyarkotey said.

One other candidate and former Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, Andrews withdrew from the race days to the polls and gave his backing to Michael Ologo.
