Nkwanta-North DCE to contest NDC constituency primaries

Kpassa (V/R), Sept. 5, GNA - Mr Paul Levin Gyato, Nkwanta North District Chief Executive, has picked nomination forms to contest the constituency primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Gyato, 45, an educationist, has held various functional executive positions of the party including Constituency Propaganda Secretary and Campaign Manager, until his appointment to the position of DCE.

Alhaji Abdul-Anas, Nkwanta-North Constituency Chairman told the Ghana News Agency that Mr John Oti Bless, 32, self-employed, an Assemblyman for Amamomo Electoral Area in the Odododiodioo Constituency in Accra had already picked forms to contest the primary.

He said filing of nomination forms opened from August 16th to September 16th, whilst vetting would take place from September 17th to 30th this month.

Alhaji Abdul-Anas said the constituency primary election in orphaned areas would be completed by October 31st.

He said all things being equal, a total of 227 delegates were expected to cast their ballots to elect a candidate to represent the constituency in the 2012 Parliamentary elections.

Mr Gyato, who arrived with the display of brass band music to pick his forms, later addressed party supporters at a rally and said he had dutifully exemplified himself to the course of the party, the district and the constituency.

He said the opportunity to serve at such levels was a duty-call, rededication of selflessness and service to mankind.

Mr Gyato entreated the vetting committees to discharge their duties without fear or favour and avoid circumventing laid down principles, which were major sources of rancor, disunity and chaos.

He said he stood in a better position to wrestle power from the incumbent Member of Parliament, come December 2012.

The constituency seat is the only seat annexed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) out of the 22 seats in the Volta Region. Mr Joseph Nayan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) currently occupies the seat. He is still the NPP candidate for the 2012 election.
