NPP youth have major role to play - Organiser

Sunyani, Feb. 12, GNA- Mr Alfred Ofori Annye, Brong-Ahafo Regional Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the weekend said, the youth have a major role to play, to enable the party to win the 2008 general election.

He has therefore entreated the party faithful, especially the youth, to be abreast with the good policies of the government, so that they could woo more people for the party's overwhelming victory. Mr Annye was speaking at the inauguration of a branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacy (TESCON) at the Nurses Training College in Sunyani.

He noted with concern that most people, particularly the aged, were unaware of the numerous achievements of the government and the youth of the party were the best people to help them out. Nana Attah Afena, Regional Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), said this year's elections would be crucial to the party, hence the need to undertake a massive campaign. He urged the youth of the party to guard against politics of insults and to forge ahead in unity to be able to tackle the diverse problems affecting the development of the party.

Mr Obiri Francis, an aspiring parliamentary candidate noted that it would be a dig blow if the party fails to retain power. He identified ineffective propaganda machinery as a major problem of the youth in the electioneering campaign and appealed to the party hierarchy to organize training for them to polish their communication skills.

Mr Francis deplored petty squabbles, internal wrangling and unnecessary backbiting among party members, whom he called on to demonstrate unity of purpose and understanding at all levels to help the party to grow. Mr Emmanuel Tweneboah Kodua, President of the Sunyani Polytechnic branch of TESCON appealed to the party hierarchy to provide the needed support and motivation to TESCON members to enable them work hard in their electioneering campaign.
