NPP trying to divert attention from galamsey documentary – NDC reacts to leaked audio

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) of deliberately releasing an audio of Ofosu Ampofo to divert the attention of Ghanaians from Anas Aremeyaw Anas' latest documentary 'Galamsey Fraud'.

Samuel Ofosu Ampofo in the audio recording is heard among other things, conceding that a pro-NDC militia group, Azorka Boys were present in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election which turned violent.

According to the NDC chairperson, the party withdrew from the elections because it was outnumbered by a pro-NPP militia group Kandahar Boys dressed as national security operatives.

The NDC leader highlighted plans to fend off NPP militia in the 2020 elections and also mentioned plans to endanger the lives of some Ghanaians.

He also okayed a plan to unleash insults on a religious leader and Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante and also denigrate the chairperson of the Electoral Commission Jean Mensa.

The main opposition party reacting to this in a press statement described the audio as fraudulent and vile.

“We are not surprised about this act of desperation on the part of the ruling NPP. In the wake of an impending damning expose by ace investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in which key officials of the Akufo-Addo government have been caught on camera receiving bribes in order to compromise government's so-called fight against illegal mining, the NDC can understand government's restless desperation to divert public attention with this rather vile and fraudulent audio recording.”

The statement further added that “the statements and attributions contained on the said tape are concocted and false. They are inconsistent with the character and track record of Chairman Ofosu Ampofo and do not reflect the values he has always stood for. The maliciously depraved and clearly doctored tape has been contrived by some devious elements in the NPP and government to undermine the NDC and its National Chairman”.
