NPP meeting with presidential aspirants hits a snag

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) could not reach a conclusion with the three presidential aspirants over attempts to extend the date of the upcoming congress in October.

The National Council of Elders is in talks with the aspirants – Nana Akufo-Addo, Alan Kyerematen and Francis Addai Nimoh – over a petition to extend the date of the congress that is scheduled to take place on October 18 to elect a flagbearer.

StarrFMonline.com understands that the meeting with the trio was inconclusive forcing the executives to reschedule the meeting to September 25 to finalise talks.

A faction within the main opposition has called for ample time to enable the contenders to campaign across the country after the number of aspirants was pruned down to five at the mini congress August 31.

Two contenders who survived the first hurdle – Joe Ghartey and Osei Ameyaw – have thrown in the towel to support two-time presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo.
