NPP holds Manhyia North primary election today

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding elections Saturday, July 2 to choose its parliamentary candidate for the 2016 elections.

The elections have been postponed over alleged irregularities and other concerns raised by contestants. Manhyia North remains the only constituency not to have elected a candidate to contest for the seat currently occupied by Collins Owusu Amankwah, who is in the running for renomination.

Speaking with Accra News Friday July 1, Daniel Agyenim Boateng, Deputy Ashanti Regional Organiser of the NPP, the poll will be conducted at the Longford Hotel and the party has finalised arrangements with the Electoral Commission (EC) for that purpose. He said the police would provide security for the primary, which will see 490 delegates vote in the election to determine which of the three candidates – Collins Owusu Amnakwah, Richard Osei Bamfo and Kwasi Konadu – will represent the party in legislative elections later in the year.
