NDC youth demands dismissal of Mark Wayongo

NDC pressure group called Coalition of the welfare of the masses (COFTWOM) in Bolgatanga has given President John Evans Atta Mills 72 hours to fire Hon. Mark Owen Wayongo as the regional minister.

The group which is made up of NDC members across board in the region warned that the party will suffer defeat in the Upper East Region in the 2012 general elections if Mark Wayongo remains at post as regional minister.

Addressing a news conference in Bolgatanga over the weekend, spokesperson for the group, John Paul Duncan accused Mr. Wayongo of enriching his pocket by awarding contracts to his family relations and NPP sympathizers for “Kick backs.”

Paul Duncan disclosed that several contracts worth thousands of Ghana cedis including the supply of 10,000 dual desks for Upper East schools have been awarded to Mr. Wayongo’s friend whose construction company name is Plans construction Limited with Gh 950,000 cedis as the contract sum.

According to the Bolgatanga NDC pressure group spokesperson, Mr. Wayongo interdicted Madam Akanwarisagi Alita Rosaline, his secretary at the Regional coordinating council on suspicion that she was the source of legitimate documents the group has possessed to back their claims.

Paul Duncan further went ahead and fingered the Upper East Regional Minister for appointing a well known NPP party founder, Mr. Ajeni a retired educationist to chair the planning committee of the region’s 50th Anniversary.

He said the NDC’s support base was waning in the Upper East Region because of Mr. Mark Wonyongo’s attitude to party members including the regional executives who have been sidelined.

The group among other resolutions therefore called for the reinstatement of madam Rosaline, the interdicted secretary and also the revocation of Mr. Ajeni’s appointment as Chairman of the planning committee responsible for the region’s 50th Anniversary.
