Some concerned youth of the National Democratic Congress at Savelugu in the Northern Region have staged a demonstration to demand the reinstatement of Alhassan Iddrisu, accountant of the National Commission for Civic Education.

Mr. Iddrisu, according to the youth, was interdicted by his employers on March 18, 2016 and blamed the Municipal Chief Executive, Abdulai Alhassan Red for being behind the interdiction.

A petition presented by President of the Youth, Muhammad Awal, alleged the MCE threatened to deal with Mr Iddrisu, who contested him and five others in the NDC primary in the constituency.

The youth have warned the failure to reinstate Mr. Iddrisu will have negative effect on the fortunes of the party in the general elections in the constituency which has always be won by the NDC.

According to Mr. Awal, there were massive election malpractices and irregularities in the constituency during the party's primary, stating that "the election was overturned in favour of the MCE".

He said notwithstanding "the clandestine manipulation, Mr. Iddrisu painstakingly accepted the situation with the expressed purpose of keeping and maintaining a united party in the area for victory in election 2016".

They carried placards with inscriptions such as “No Iddrisu no vote”; “Mahama must do the right thing”; “Abdallah Red will lose 2016 elections”.

However, the MCE has denied the allegations saying the NCCE is an independent body and determined whom they work with.

He told TV3 that he was not aware of the interdiction until his brother who worked with the NCCE told him Mr Iddrisu had been interdicted.
