NDC Constituency chairman sure of Party's victory in 2008

Obuasi (Ash), Nov 12, GNA - Mr Michael Gbedemah, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Prestea-Huni Valley constituency has called for massive support for the Party's presidential candidate John Evans Atta Mills, saying it is clear he will win the next elections.

He urged supporters to continue with the Party's house-to-house campaign.

"The chances of the NDC in winning the 2008 elections are very clear. In 2000 and 2004, the votes obtained by Prof Mills showed that we are left with six percent and a vote to win the total election and that alone gives us the assurance," Mr Gbedemah said.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Obuasi, Mr Gbedemah said the Prestea-Huni Valley constituency seat would be the first the NDC would capture because the people had been deceived by the government. "NPP has disappointed the constituency because although President Kufuor and the Vice-President both gave the assurance that the Prestea Mines would not be closed down, today the Mine is no more there and the place has been turned into military barracks for the Second Battalion," he said.

He said the people are going through hardship with high poverty levels. "Today, it is only people who have magic in their rooms vomiting monies for them will not appreciate the poverty in the country". He wondered why the various presidential aspirants of the NPP were saying they would fight poverty when elected but failed to assist the Kufuor administration to address that problem.

"If they had that capability to fight poverty they would have helped President Kufuor to redeem the image of their Party," Mr Gbedemah added.

Mr Gbedemah reiterated that Prof Atta Mills is the one who could redeem the country from the shackles of poverty.
