Mahama's time is up – Osafo Marfo

President John Mahama’s time us up because he has been in office for eight years, even though he has been president for just a term, former Finance Minister Yaw Osafo Marfo has said.

At the campaign launch of the New Patriotic Party’s Abuakwa North MP and parliament nominee for 2016, Gifty Twum Ampofo, at Osiem in the Eastern Region, Mr Osafo Marfo said: "If people believe that eight years is enough for a party in government to demonstrate its vision, then President John Mahama's time is up."

The former Akyem Oda MP said it was high time Ghanaians voted Mr Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress out of office.

The NPP currently occupies 26 of the 33 seats in the region, which is seen as one of its strongholds. Mr Osafo Marfo, however, said the NPP will add more seats to the 26 in the December polls.

Mr Mahama has always hammered on the point that every president that has served in the fourth republic, except late Prof John Evans Atta Mills, had two terms and so he also deserves two terms.

In Mr Osafo Marfo’s view, however, since Mr Mahama was a Vice President in the Mills administration and even inherited the remainder of that government following Prof Mills’ death in mid-2012, and has also served as president for another four years, time was up for him to give way to the NPP.
