A leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, says bad decisions taken by the erstwhile John Mahama administration plunged Ghana’s economy into a crisis.

According to him, the Mahama government poorly and recklessly managed things despite inheriting an “oil-rich economy”.

In a Facebook post, the former Executive Director of the Danquah Institute said the NDC administration wasted GHc4 million on contracts which were of no benefit to Ghanaians.

“We are out of the IMF now. It has not been an easy journey. Ghanaians, of no fault of their own, have had to sacrifice and endure austerity for four solid years all because the Govt then (under President John Mahama), poorly and recklessly managed the economy,” he wrote.

Gabby, who is a nephew of President Akufo-Addo, said Mahama’s poor decisions turned Ghana’s oil-rich economy into one without hope.

“By July 2012, President Mahama (who is now asking to be voted back in 2020) had been sworn in. By the close of that year, the oil-rich economy he inherited was in serious crisis.

“Within that short period GHS4bn of cash that had not been programmed for was spent (most of it wasted) and much of that on contracts yet to be delivered - yes rlg laptops, guinea fowls etc.

He was determined to stay in power at literally all cost,” he added.
