MP accuses DCE of burning NDC office

NDC Member of Parliament for Atebubu is accusing the District Chief Executive for the area, Sampson Owusu Boateng of leading a mob to burn down the constituency party office.

According to Sanja Nanja, the DCE who he claimed was firing sporadically in the air, led a group of irate youth to the NDC party office and set it ablaze on Tuesday.

Several people have reportedly been injured following a scuffle between supporters of Sanja Nanja and Mr. Owusu Boateng following the reported removal of the latter from office.

In what appears to be a prelude to what they might do, supporters of the embattled DCE burnt car tyres, an NDC embossed party T-shirt and subsequently set the party office at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo region ablaze.

The irate youth blamed the MP for instigating the removal of their favourite as DCE and replacing him with one Eric Osei - an allegation he [Sanja] has vehemently denied.

On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Sanja Nanja said he is in a self imposed house arrest because his life is under threat.

He alleged that, the DCE and his supporters have laid ambush on the route to his house to lynch him.

“I had to use a bush road to my house because the DCE and his supporters have vowed to kill me on sight. I'm really scared” he moaned.

Sanja Nanja said he has lodged a formal complaint with the police on the issue and hope they can bring Mr Owusu Boateng, said to be at large, to book.

Meanwhile, police in the Atebubu Amantin district have begun investigations into the matter.

Police Commander for Atebubu Amantin, Superintendent Joseph Dzinaku has indicated that though some of the youth have been arrested, the police has mounted a search for the others.

Chief Supt. Dzinaku said the police will ensure anyone found culpable will be dwelt with to serve as a deterrent to others.
