‘Let’s prove those who doubt our inability to disband vigilantes wrong’ – Peace Council to parties

Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rt Rev Professor Emmanuel Asante has asked the two main political parties (NPP, NDC) and stakeholders to show Ghanaians, especially critics they are capable of championing the agenda of disbanding all forms of party militia in the country.

Since President Akufo-Addo called for the meeting, the two leading political parties have been going back and forth over the terms of the dialogue which is being moderated by the National Peace council.

Rev Emmanuel Asante who addressed stakeholders at today’s meeting held in Peduase stressed on the importance to stir out palpable actions that will combat the menace as its failure will be a huge disappointment

He said international bodies, Ghanaians especially are in great expectation of what have been done so far, which is a reason to by all means find ways of ridding the political system of vigilante groups and for that matter prove critics wrong.

“Let me remind us that we cannot afford to fail mother Ghana and its people. I therefore humbly appeal to you that lets continue with the momentum so that we all win in this chain which we started on April 9. Ghanaians and the international community are waiting patiently to see what we will be able to do. There are those who doubt whether we will be able to come up with anything. Let’s prove our critics wrong”



Meanwhile, the National Peace Council has asked the two political parties to present their input within two weeks which would be inculcated in the roadmap on eradication of political vigilantism, together with reports submitted by various stakeholders



Over 12 stakeholders including the National Peace Council, office of the Chief Imam, Judiciary, both the NDC and the NPP, the police service and other institutions have been consulted over the period to help address the issue of political vigilantism in the country
