I support Akufo-Addo’s Ghana beyond aid agenda – Joshua Alabi

A Presidential hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Joshua Alabi has endorsed President Akufo-Addo’s “Ghana Beyond Aid” agenda.

According to him, the initiative if achieved by the Akufo-Addo led administration, will ensure Ghana is self-sufficient.

President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is hoping to build a “Ghana beyond aid” through the use of the country’s own resources for development.

“We want to build an economy that is not dependent on charity and handouts, but an economy that will look at the proper management of its resources as the way to engineer social and economic growth in our country,” the President had said in March last year.

However, the vision of a “Ghana Beyond Aid” has been criticized as amorphous and without timelines or an action plan.

Commenting on the issue on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Monday, Prof Alabi said the vision of a “Ghana beyond aid” is similar to his agenda to build a prosperous nation if given the nod.

He explained that Ghana under his leadership will focuse more on Agriculture, Science and Technology to achieve economic transformation which is the ultimate goal of “Ghana Beyond Aid”.

The former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies said his dream is to see a Ghana which is truly independent – helping neighbouring countries.

Prof Alabi called on Ghanaians and political parties to support President Akufo-Addo’s agenda to wean the country off donor support.
