I’m not a 'Hawk' – Sedofu

Members of the Hawks Members of the Hawks

Mr Theophilus Sedofu, a well-built man, alleged to be a member of the Hawks, has denied being a member of the militia group affiliated to the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Although Mr Sedofu has been captured in several pictures wearing a black T-Shirt with the inscription "The Hawks", he said he is not a member of the militia group but an Executive Member of the NDC at the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Giving his testimony on Thursday, 7 March 2019, before the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry tasked to probe the Ayawaso West Wuogon violence, Mr Sedofu said he only wore the T-Shirt after it was given to him as a gift during a unity walk organised by the NDC in the Ashanti Region.

“The T-Shirt was given to me during a unity walk in Kumasi. I was directing traffic, the NDC was sharing the T-Shirt and they gave me one,” he stated.

He indicated that the pictures circulating online from the Kumasi event shows that he was wearing his own T-Shirt underneath the Hawks branded T-Shirt.

Mr Sedofu noted that although he has seen his pictures pop up anytime a search is conducted on the Hawks online, he does not know who to complain to and hence his silence.

Mr Sedofu became a person of interest to the Commission when it was discovered that he was present at the private residence of the NDC parliamentary candidate during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election.

Mr Sedofu was one of the many individuals arrested by masked National Security operatives during the melee.
