I’ll contest NDC flagbearership slot if Mahama does not – Victor Smith

Ghana Ghana

Ghana’s former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Victor Smith, has disclosed that he’ll contest the Flagbearship position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the polls in 2020, if ex President John Mahama decides not to run.

According to him, he’ll offer himself as a courageous leader who will make the laws of Ghana work, a leadership quality he asserts the country currently lacks.

The NDC which was defeated resoundingly in the December 2016 elections by the then opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of its congress to elect a new candidate, has had names of some leading members popping up as persons with presidential ambition.

Ex President Mahama remains coy over his political future, but while calls for him has intensified, current Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has revealed his intention to contest for the Flagbearership slot.

However speaking on Asempa FM Friday, Victor Smith who has publicy stated his backing for ex President Mahama as the NDC’s surest bet for the 2020 election stated that he’ll be the perfect replacement for Mr Mahama if he declines the calls to vy for the topmost position.

“I’ll offer myself…I’ve gone through enough and I don’t see the commitment from certain people, I don’t see the kind of drive I’m looking for. Not because of NDC per say but for Ghana, becuase we can’t be making the same mistakes otherwise that upheaval we talked about one day will face us.”
