Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has become the subject of social media conversations once again, after giving an indication that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will in the coming years adopt Artificial Intelligence to fight theft in the sector.

Dr Bawumia while addressing a ceremony at the ECG headquarters in Accra February 18, 2020, said the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will pilot an Artificial Intelligence (AI) system which when fully operational will completely eliminate the issue of electricity theft across the country.

“I know they are piloting a system now and by the grace of God if all goes well we will have implemented a new system starting this year whereby nobody will be able to steal electricity in Ghana again,” Dr Bawumia announced.

But this promise, according to a section of Ghanaians on social media, is nothing but another figment of the vice president’s imaginations.
