‘Horny’ NDC footsoldiers impregnating Free SHS beneficiaries - NPP MP

Following accusations by opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) that the Free Senior High School( SHS) policy implemented by the Akufo-Addo administration has resulted in many girls becoming pregnant, Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia North Constituency, Collins Owusu Amankwah has hit back, accusing horny NDC footsoldiers of impregnating the free SHS girls for political reasons.

The MP stated that even though the NDC is doing all it can to discredit the free SHS policy, the policy has come to stay.

The legislator made the accusation on Accra-based Kingdom FM in Accra in reaction to NDC’s claim that over 1400 girls became pregnant due to free SHS which has altered the SHS system due to the admission of huge numbers.

The free SHS has brought the “double track” system which means students of the same year group take turns to be in school.

Mr Amankwah has advised the NDC to steer off the Free SHS policy but rather focus on their campaign message because the policy has relieved many parents and guardians of their financial burdens with regards to providing second-cycle education for their children and wards respectively.

The NDC has been very critical of the Free SHS Policy and has promised to review it when they win the 2020 general elections.

This is however not the first time the NDC claims some beneficiaries have become pregnant as a result of the implementation of the programme.

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC Peter Boamah Otokunor in August this year revealed that 5,500 of the double track students under the free Senior High School (SHS) are pregnant.

He blamed the Akufo-Addo led administration for lacking tact in implementing the free SHS policy subsequently dividing into tracks and making the teenage female students among them prone to pregnancy.

“The last time we conducted a survey in Ghana and realized that averagely in every constituency, 20 teenage girls under the double track system are pregnant”, he revealed on Kumasi-Based Otec Fm monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

Asked by the host why they are shielding such a survey he responded “It is all over … we have been talking about it. The males among them, if care is not taken they may also join bad groups and become criminals or wee smokers
