Former Ghana striker Augustine Arhinful wants Ghanaians to allow government to initiate radical actions to save the ‘sorry state’ of football in the country.

All football activities have been put on hold by authorities after some referees and top football administrators were caught on camera indulging in malpractices. The top-flight in particular has been truncated as a result.

In spite of all these developments, a section of Ghanaians want football to return in the shortest possible time since many footballers rely on it for their livelihood but Arhinful disagrees.

"We're not in normal time so a lot must change with regards to how we handle the future of Ghanaian football. We need to allow government to take radical actions in order to get football back on track in the country even if it will take us a lot of time," Arhinful told Asempa FM.

"A lot of people who were part of the disbanded GFA worked for their personal interest and not in the interest of Ghanaian football.

"I was part of meetings at the GFA whereas a section of the committee members were sleeping while discussions were ongoing," he said.

"Some of the past executive committee members went to meetings to only sleep and engage in unproductive activities at the detriment of the sport so we should allow changes, since that will help, is in the future," he added.

Arhinful was previously part of the football association's technical committee which analyses performance of the various national teams.
