President Nana Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians in the diaspora that they will be duly registered for the National Identification Card (Ghana Card).

The president said the National Identification Authority is putting in place measures to ensure that the exercise is completed before the next general elections in 2020.

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known on Friday, 28 September 2018 when he addressed a town hall meeting of Ghanaians resident in Washington D.C., as part of his trip to the United States of America for the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

“The programme that the National Identification Authority has put in place is that, once they are completed with the registration of those of us at home, they will then be systematically registering Ghanaians abroad,” he said.

Nana Akufo-Addo pointed out that the registration will cover all Ghanaians “everywhere”.

“That registration exercise [for Ghanaians living outside] will take place. It is important that we keep reminding them [NIA] that there is a need to complete this before the next election so that everybody here will have a card identifying them to be able to vote,” he stated.
