Four Burkina Faso nationals have been arrested by Immigration officials at the Babile inland checkpoint in the Upper West Region of Ghana.

The four, all men, arrested on Tuesday morning are between the ages of 22 and 39.

According to the Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Ibn Yussif Duranah Abdul-Mumin Seidu, the Burkinabes were seen onboard a Hyundai Grace H300 minibus with registration number AS 3289-11.

They were travelling through Wa and to Kumasi.

Preliminary investigations by Ghana Immigration Service suggest the four came to Ghana for “economic purposes” but they entered the country through unapproved route within the Hamile Sector Command.

They were taken through initial health screening at the checkpoint and later sent to the Hamile Immigration Control for repatriation to their home country – Burkina Faso.

About 126 Burkina Faso nationals have been arrested since April after Ghana closed its borders. The closure of Ghana’s borders has been extended to May 30.
