Former MP for Bia West dies

The immediate past National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bia West Constituency in the Western Region, Mr. Michael Coffie Boampong, has died.

The party’s Constituency Organizer for Bia West, Awudu Lamini, confirmed the sad news to our reporter.

“Hon. Boampong is dead…it happened at the 37 Military Hospital, yesterday Monday afternoon, January 29, 2018. This is a sad news for the party and constituency,” he lamented.

“Hon. Boampong was on admission at 37 Military hospitals after a short illness,” he added.

Awudu said the sitting MPs in the Region led by Sampson Ahi and Mintah Akando visited the body at the hospital today, Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

He described the late MP as a selfless, committed and hardworking man who has brought a lot of developmental projects in the Constituency.

The late Boampong was a Member of Parliament for the Bia West Constituency between 2000 and 2016.

Ahead of the 2016 general elections, Boampong was beaten in the party’s primaries by the current MP of the area, Dr. Augustine Tawaiah.

He was the Chairman of the Select Committee on Roads in Parliament in the 6th Parliament.

The 55-year politician, who was born at Sefwi Essan left behind a wife and five children; three males and two females.

The family is yet to confirm the funeral arrangements.
