Ghana will on Tuesday, June 30, start compiling a new voters’ register ahead of the country’s Presidential and Parliamentary elections in December 2020.

The Electoral Commission (EC) in a letter written to the ruling New Patriotic Party on Monday, June 8, said the exercise will be held at all registration centres and district offices of the EC throughout the country.

A decision to compile a new voter roll has been met with fierce opposition from political parties, CSOs and members of the academia.

It also comes at a time President Akufo-Addo has been petitioned to get the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa removed from office.

Earlier today, Parliament after a 106-92 vote gave EC’s Constitutional Instrument (C.I. 126) the green light that will allow the Commission to compile a new voters’ register with new requirements.
