EC’s $108k website now under maintenance

EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa

Barely 48 hours after Media General broke the news about the Electoral Commission’s official website being inaccessible for a long time, there has been a sudden change in the feedback users get when they try accessing it.

Until Friday evening, the feedback users got from the www.ec.gov.gh was as follows;

“Bandwidth Limit Exceeded...The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.”

This feedback, Head of Development, Tech & Innovation at MG Digital, Kwame Owusu Ansah explains is an indication that the website has used up all its allocated resources.

“It means that the amount of resources that was allocated to the website or the host of the website have been exceeded", he explained to the news team.

This however changed from last Friday evening to what suggests that the website is now under maintenance.

“Status: 500...It’s not your fault, it’s ours...We are currently under maintenance. Kindly check back later.”, the new feedback reads.

The Electoral Commission has not yet commented on the issue which has gained a lot of attention in the public space.

Media practitioners are worried that without a working official EC website, the credibility of election results may be affected.

Many, including a member of the ruling New Patriotic Party communications team, Eric Amoako Twum, want the issue interrogated stating there is no excuse for the website to be down.
