Disregard news of defections from NPP to NDC in Akatsi North Constituency - Emanuel Korsi Bodja

The Volta Regional Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, has refuted an incident depicting the defection of some patriots to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Akatsi North Constituency.

He described the incident which took place at Ave Dakpa during Former President Mahama’s campaign tour in the constituency as “malicious and stinking vile propaganda” by the NDC.

He indicated that has been the opposition party’s modus operandi, to stage a drama of NDC members disguised as NPP sympathizers claiming defection to the already majority NDC, during campaigns of Presidential aspirant in the constituency.

“It has become a norm where the NDC gives NPP branded T-shirts to some of its members and claim they have defected from NPP to join them”, Mr Bodja stated in a rejoinder copied to Ghanaweb.

He, therefore, entreated the general populace to disregard a publication on mynewsgh.com indicating some NPP members defected to the opposition party and support Mr Mahama’s bid to lead the NDC in the 2020 general elections.

The news item curled by Ghanaweb.com stated the defectors’ decision to abandone the NPP was due to their inability to access scholarship schemes.

Mr Bodja disputed this claim fathoming why members of a governing party that has “mouth watering opportunities” would run to the NDC seeking “scholarship favors.”

“As it stands, the Akatsi North District Assembly is battling with the payment of one hundred and forty five thousand (145,000) cedis scholarship debt, incurred by the then assembly under the NDC administration”, he said.

He further indicated investigations revealed the leader of the defectors, one Vincent from Ave Xevi, is not associated to the NPP, but had earlier approached the Akatsi North District Chief Executive, Prince Amuzu, to assist him out of a drug smuggling case being heard at the law court.

“The DCE declined to be part of this drug related case after he had earlier sorted him [Vincent] out of other previous non-drug related cases”, he added.

Mr Bodja emphasized the NPP has witnessed systematic increase in voting patterns in the NDC stronghold during general elections, bringing to bare previous incidents of defections were only staged to draw media attention to campaign activities of the opposition party’s Presidential Candidates.

He also outlined some major projects being undertaken by the Akufo-Addo-led-government aimed at “bringing prosperity to the people of the Akatsi North Constituency”.

The projects include construction of access road to Ave Dzadzepe and Ave Dakpa township, renovation of maternity block at Ave Dakpa Health Centre, construction of a 3-Unit Classroom block at Ave-Afiadenyigba Vocational Technical School, provision of 150 mono desks to Ave Senior High, distribution of streetlights.

Emmanuel Korsi Bodja advised Akatsi North constituents and the entire citizenry to embrace and take advantage of the numerous policies being rolled by government to enhance their livelihoods.

“The NPP government will continue to work without discrimination to all persons and Ghana will indeed work again”, he added.
