Delta Force members recycled into BNI operatives – Asiedu Nketiah

General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has claimed that the governing New Patriotic Party is recycling members of its Delta Forces vigilante group into national security services such as the BNI.

He said even though the BNI has not made any recruitment announcements in recent times, his party is aware of newly posted BNI officers who are members of the Delta Force in places including the Banda and Wenchi Districts of the Bono Region.

“They have never advertised recruitment into the BNI for instance, but people are being trained and we know of individuals who have been posted as BNI District Officers in at least three districts in Brong Ahafo, who have been identified as Delta Force guys. We have their pictures and they are at post now. Go to Banda the BNI officer there was in the delta forces, go to Wenchi, go to Tein. They were all people known to be delta force operatives who have been recycled into being BNI officers.”

He added that more of the operatives are currently being trained by government using state facilities.

When he was questioned on his source of evidence, Mr Asiedu Nketia said his party is in possession of pictures of the individuals but urged journalists to make their own efforts to independently verify his claims.

“We have pictures. But don’t believe our pictures, you take the cameras there and then go and do the cross-checking. It is a state facility, you will have access”

This comes at the back of allegations by several senior members of the NDC including former President John Mahama, who believes government is training party thugs to cause havoc during next year’s general elections.

The former president cited his knowledge of a letter by the Upper West Security Council requesting for NPP members to be trained in combat for the 2020 election.

He added that follow-ups on the letter have revealed that indeed some party members were sent to Asutuare in the Greater Accra Region to undergo training, describing it as a worrying situation.
