Coronavirus: Perform ablution at home – Government directs Muslims

Government has asked all Muslims to perform ablution which is an act of cleansing parts of the body at home before coming to the mosque for prayers as a measure to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

President Akufo Addo in his 10th address to the nation of the fight against COVID-19 on Sunday eased restrictions on churches, mosques and the universities to reopen this week.

The Minister for Religious Affairs addressing a press conference on Monday evening stated that any church or mosque or other religious bodies that violate the laid down protocols will be dealt with severely.

“Ablution should be performed in the house by adherents before entering the mosque. Use easily removal footwear such as slippers. Allow people to come out of the mosque to collect slippers one after the other instead of crowding at the entrance. Sanitize microphones immediately after use.”

Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have shot up to 8,070, as at Sunday, May,31,2020, President Akufo-Addo has disclosed.

The recoveries have also increased significantly to 2,947, while the death toll still stands at 36.
