Residents of Denkyira-Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region who took the law into their own hands and lynched Captain Maxwell Adams Mahama, a leader of military detachment in the area said it was due to lack of trust they had in the security services.

According to them, each time they arrest suspected criminals and hand them over to the police, they [criminals] are mostly freed a development they believe has emboldened them to resort to instant justice each time an alarm is raised about a suspect.

“We choose to lynch criminals because it is difficult for us to believe what they always claim they are. I am sure that also applied in the case of Captain Maxwell Mahama” a resident told mynewsgh.com’s Kwabena Danso-Dapaah who visited the area on Wednesday May 30, 2017.

“It is difficult these days to believe a stranger even if the person is speaking truth. We have heard reports of police and military personnel arrested for robbery and other crimes”

Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by the residents while jogging on the early hours of Monday on suspicion of being an armed robber when spotted by some women he stopped to ask for direction.

Armed troops stormed the area on Tuesday morning to arrest the town folks for investigation and possibly prosecution of culprits alleged to have mastered the attack on the senior military officer.

Residents are said to have fled from the town for fear of arrest by the military personnel.
