Bench warrant issued for Delta Force escapees

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has issued a bench warrant for 13 members of vigilante group Delta Force who were set free from a Kumasi Circuit Court on Thursday.

The 13 were standing trial for assaulting the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, George Adjei, on Friday, March 24, 2017.

But on Thursday when they were remanded in prison custody, other members of the New Patriotic Party-affiliated vigilante group who had apparently come to the court in solidarity with their arrested colleagues defied the judge’s orders and asked the accused to follow them home.

They used “the back door” which was reserved only for judges. According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, eight of the Delta Force members who aided the escape of their friends were arrested “and they are in police custody”.

For the 13 who are at large, the bench warrant is over their heads, he said. The police say it is unclear whether the eight arrested are members of the vigilante group.

He said they will be arraigned before court in no time.
