Be unbiased in selecting MCE for Nzema East - Group to Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Axim Youth Alliance (AYA) - a registered non-political youth organization has advised President Akufo-Addo to be unbiased and objective in the selection of a Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Nzema East Municipal Assembly (NEMA).

This call according to the group comes after the municipality has in the past suffered some administrative mismanagement problems and, thus wants to prevent the recurrence of such issues.

In a statement written by the group to the President, a candidate for the MCE position from the Municipality must satisfy Act 462 of the Local Government Bill, 2016 which indicates the person must be well educated.

Apart from the academic qualification, the group also wants a trustworthy person who would “promote transparency and responsibility in the management of the constituency's finances and pertinent affairs of our municipality”.

THE AXIM YOUTH ALLIANCE (AYA) PETITIONS HIS EXCELLENCY, PRESIDENT NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO ON THE SELECTION OF MCE FOR THE NZEMA EAST MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY

We of the Axim Youth Alliance (AYA), would like to take this opportunity to congratulate his Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on their election into the high office of our beloved noble country.

AYA is a registered non-political and non-profit youth organization in the Nzema East Municipality (NEMA). Our membership base consists of all citizens of Axim and its environs both at home and abroad.

It was established in 2014 and has since then achieved admirable improvements in both human and infrastructure developments in and around Axim.

On the other hand, the story of NEMA in general has sadly not been encouraging due to what we perceive to be the result of some ineffective administrative heads in the past, the effects of which are the dwindling in Internally Generated Funds (IGF), mismanagement of resources of the municipality, the surge of 'galamsey' activities among others.

We believe strongly in His Excellency's impeccable and objectivity and your astute unbiased nature, and trust that these same admirable qualities will be employed in the selection of the next MCE for our beloved NEMA.

We however, deem it imperative to draw His Excellency's attention to the aforementioned problems with the view to preventing such administrative mismanagement from being repeated.

In this direction, we the members of AYA humbly crave the indulgence of the Office of the President to consider among others, the following in the selection of the next MCE for NEMA. Without being too presumptuous, we beseech you to please look for;

1. Someone with the requisite academic qualification as stipulated by Act 462 of the Local Government Bill, 2016.

2. Someone, who is honest and has pragmatic insight into our community problems and needs.

3. Someone with a proven track record of trustworthiness and commitment to accountability, to promote transparency and responsibility in the management of the constituency's finances and pertinent affairs of our municipality.

4. Someone who can handle our complex municipality, which consists of five paramount chiefs.

5. Needless to say, we need a person whose integrity and actions which will reflect and promote oneness of all the people of the municipality, irrespective of ethnicity, political affiliation and the overall vision and objectives of His Excellency's administration.

We are very much confident that if such a person is appointed, he/she would be able to implement the critical elements of the Government's goals to unleash the economic potentials of both human and natural resources of our area.

Although all the seven known candidates who applied for the position may seem to be qualified, we would plead to the president to select the best among the shortlisted candidates, who will lift the image of NEMA.

We humbly call on you, Mr. President to take our plea into serious consideration.

Signed:

Kofi Arko Nokoe
