Asiedu Nketia still at post – NDC

General Secretary of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia General Secretary of NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia

Contrary to widespread reports of the resignation of the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the rumour has been repudiated by the party.

Briefing the media on the outcome of the constituency elections held by the party in 256 out of 275 constituencies, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations of the party, Mr.Koku Anyidoho said the rumours should be treated with contempt.

He explained that Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s absence during the period of the constituency elections was far from reports being circulated by the media that he had resigned from his role as General Secretary, a position he has held since December 2005 after winning elections by an overwhelming margin at the party’s delegate’s congress.

He revealed that Mr. Asiedu Nketia was on an official duty for the party, a task that had made him ineligible to be present during the party’s last Saturday constituencies’ elections.

Though some constituencies are yet to conduct their primaries as a result of insufficient election materials, poor weather conditions, personal commitments and engagements in some constituencies and several ties in the election results, Mr. Anyidoho was certain the party could still go ahead with their regional elections which is scheduled to come off later in the year.
