Anthony Karbo can win Lawra seat – Ben Ephson

Pollster Ben Ephson has tipped Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Anthony Karbo to win the Lawra seat in the 2016 parliamentary polls, if he[Karbo] ups his game with barely a month to go for the elections.

Mr Ephson is of the view that, should Karbo tighten up his campaign in the constituency within the last month to the elections, he could pull a surprise in Lawra.

The skirmishes within the NDC in Lawra, according to Ephson is likely to turn things in favour of the NPP Parliamentary candidate, Karbo as the NDC incumbent Member of Parliament, Abu Samson has filed to contest as independent after losing to 61 year old Lawyer, Bede Ziedeng in the party’s primary.

“The margin of victory in 2012 for the Parliamentary in Lawra constituency is 6000 in favour of NDC, while the Presidential is a bit wider with 8000+ votes. If the incumbent has really done his work well and he has that sympathy in the constituency, people will vote for Bede Ziedeng because he’s a candidate. As such Karbo has to be on the grounds to seal his chances of winning. If Karbo decides to get onto the grounds and work earnestly towards his campaign within this last one month to elections, he could spring a surprise; he’s too close to winning the seat. There is already turmoil in the camp of the NDC, and the incumbent MP may decide to work against Bede Ziedeng knowing the consequences of his actions to contest as an Independent candidate.” Ephson made the analysis on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Wednesday.

While mild tension seems to have taken over the affairs of the NDC in the Constituency at the moment, their main contenders, the New Patriotic Party appear to be enjoying a bond of unity among themselves. Their primary in 2015 saw new entrant, Joseph Dontaa Bilson, coming up against Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, NPP stalwart, and after the contest at Lawra, Anthony Karbo came out victorious.

Immediately the results were declared, the two factions marched and jubilated together in Lawra as a demonstration of the unity in their party. Since that contest, Joseph Dontaa has been a pillar in the affairs of the party and he is currently in charge of mobilising votes for the party in the Babile area, according to reports.
