Sagnarigu Constituency Member of Parliament, A.B.A Fuseini has accused President Akufo-Addo of shielding and clearing criminals who are staunch members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to A.B.A Fuseini, it comes as no surprise to him as the president has a record of protecting his ‘lawless’ people as he does same to his corrupt appointees.

The legislator’s rage is in reaction to government’s rejection of some recommendations by the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry on the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence where a Member of Parliament was assaulted by a National Security officer.

Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George was on January 31 slapped by SWAT officer, Mohammed Sulemana during the scuffle that ensued at Ayawaso. The slap on the legislator’s face which was caught on camera and other acts of violence carried out at the grounds by security operatives were used as evidence to establish how the SWAT used excessive force at the by-election.

The Short Commission in the report recommended government to criminally prosecute Mohammed Sulemana for the offence of slapping Sam George but government rejected it.

Government, explaining why the recommendation was rejected indicated that “the report failed to address the first and most critical of the terms of reference of the commission. The failure to do so disables government from accepting in whole findings of the commission”.

According to government, the Commission elsewhere in the report suggested that Mohammed Sulemana had “a valid defence of provocation for the said assault”.

But reacting to the issue, fuming A.B.A Fuseini said “When it comes to NPP people, the president will never take any NPP person no matter how lawless they are. You see the lawlessness this person inflicted on another Ghanaian and the president cannot take action. He rather be shielding like he has been clearing his corrupt appointees, he’s also clearing criminals who are perpetrating violence on other Ghanaians. Criminals because this was a criminal act committed by a criminal and the president is pardoning him, he doesn’t want to take action against him because he’s a member of the NPP. And they’re the same invincible forces”.

The legislator further accused the president of being the one behind the violence that erupted at Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election and further accused him of perpetrating impunity in the country.

"What we saying is that he’s at the centre of the violence that went on at the Ayawaso West Wuogon. This is the time he should have sent an unmistaken signal to Ghanaians that he will not tolerate any impunity. The president himself is the one who is perpetrating impunity in this country by refusing to take actions against somebody who openly went and assaulted a Member of Parliament”.

A.B.A Fuseini, who expressed disappointment in the president exclaimed that, “The one who went and assaulted a Member of Parliament in broad daylight in the full glare of the whole world; everybody saw it clearly and the President says what? That he doesn’t accept that report".

"Can you believe that this will come from the President of a Republic that when somebody assaults a Ghanaian; I’m not just saying it because Hon Sam George is an honorary colleague Member of Parliament but that is even serious more that you can assault a Ghanaian and assault a Member of Parliament in broad daylight and the president says that he doesn’t accept”, he added.
