Criminologist Professor Ken Attafuah has advised the presidential candidate of the troubled opposition New Patriotic Party to take steps to immediately address the internal conflict that has bedeviled the party.

According to him, it is the responsibility of the former attorney general to call a truce in the ensuing bickering that is disintegrating the elephant family.

One person was killed on Friday following fresh chaos that has arisen in the party after the suspension of its national chairman Paul Afoko.

Mr. Afoko has been slapped with an indefinite suspension by the national executive committee of the NPP over actions deemed inimical to the political fortunes of the party.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Monday, Professor Attafuah said the flagbearer must be able to rally the various factions in the party around a common goal.

“I think that there pockets of leadership within the party but the most important leadership that must have its voice heard at this moment is the flagbearer of the party.

“I understand that he is outside the Republic, and I think that as soon as he returns, it may be necessary and appropriate for Nana Akufo-Addo as flagbearer of the party to call the party to order, to do what is most important at the moment; which is to stop any further media bickering, to stop bad mouthing the different factions and call them to the discussion table and assert his authority and focus them on a common goal,” the Central University law lecturer stated.

He added: “Then he should set up [a] mechanism for addressing within their own constitutional administrative framework, the kinds of problem that is at the moment marring the beauty of the party. That is the first step towards addressing this challenge”.
