Agbontor endorsed as Jasikan NPP parliamentary candidate

Jasikan (V/R), Sept. 5, GNA - Eighty-four delegates in the Buem Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday endorsed by popular acclamation the candidature of Mr Bob Charles Agbontor, a quantity surveyor to represent the area in the 2008 general election. Mr Agbontor contested the seat for the NPP in 2004, but lost to Mr Ford Kamel of the National democratic Congress (NDC). In an acceptance remark, he thanked the delegates for their exemplary gesture, urging them to revisit the drawing board and re-strategize towards correcting the fall-outs from the previous elections for a resounding victory, come 2008.

He demanded little more sacrificial work from the foot soldiers of the party, saying the 2008 election was crucial to the NPP, democracy and good governance, but that these could only be attained with extra hard work and re-dedication.

Mr Agbontor urged the party stalwarts in the Constituency to vote "up and down" contrary to the "skirt and blouse" style, which had orphaned the area and had become an affront to accelerated development. He was optimistic that the battle would be fought on issues, capability and delivery.

Mr Peter Akortey alias "Jigger", Buem Constituency Chairman of the NPP, urged party supporters to embark on a house-to-house campaign to sell out government's achievements, policies and programmes to the people. He said over 88 new development projects spanning all spheres of the economy had sprung up, evidenced by government's resolve to equitably distribute the nation's wealth. Mr Solomon Kwame Donkor, Jasikan District Chief Executive, said the party was now poised than ever before to ward-off any resistance from the opposition parties because they had enormous developmental achievements to show and a practicable forecast into the future pledging his fullest support to the candidate
