Afoko’s suspension timely and appropriate – Group

A group calling itself Progressive Youth Alliance of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lauded the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for the suspension of the party’s National Chairman Paul Afoko.

According to the group, the decision is “timely and appropriate” to enable the party concentrate on its core mandate of winning power in 2016.

Mr. Afoko was suspended indefinitely for engaging in act which seeks to thwart the efforts of the party and its flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo to win the 2016 elections.

This following a recommendation by the party’s Council of Elders after he failed to appear before them to answer allegations of misconduct leveled against him.

The suspension has been lauded by many who believe the NPP is now focused to win power. In support, Progressive Youth Alliance said NEC took the right decision because they can’t bear any forms of disruptions again ahead of a crucial election.

“We can't fail to win power to save Ghana from the gross corruption and this insensitive government, so we opt to weed out the enemies within to ensure that”.

Below is the full statement

As Youth from the three northern regions, we see the suspension of our national chairman as very much appropriate and timely, because the party can't bear any forms of disruptions again as we enter the year of our crucial elections.

Hence, we wish to commend the NEC and DC for such a bold decision.

As patriots and sympathizers of the NPP, we have been faced with a lot of heart breaks, one problem from the other and generally unfavorable media outbursts. Many have questioned the leadership style, the competence and credibility of Mr Afoko to the service of the NPP. The party had had no or little peace under his leadership and this situation is unhealthy for the Npp.

It's hard to say that, his tenure as national chairman was unfortunate, because, all we witnessed were one problem after the other and it hurts badly we lost chairman Adams due to the problems he
created with his leadership

In that regard, we see his suspension as timely and appropriate, because we can't always presume he would have a change in mind and serve the party as due him. Moreover, we are entering into the crucial
year of general elections and we can't allow any forms of disruptions from Mr Afoko and his cronies again.

We therefore ask Mr Afoko, his supporters and all party faithful to know that, the suspension of our chairman is appropriate and it's really in the supreme interest of the NPP.

We believe an Akufo-Addo's presidency is what we must all protect and rally for, because that is supreme for the party and for the country.

In that order, let's collectively support the decision by the NEC and the DC, because this bold decision will bring the party a lot of peace and progress in the rescue Ghana mission.

To Mr Afoko, We believe your suspension isn't an expulsion, we think this suspension will give you a further opportunity to prove to all of us your love for the party, because it's something everybody doubts.

Also, we expect you to accept the fact that, your tenure as national chairman was unfortunate and this move is for the supreme interest of the NPP.

We can't fail to win power to save Ghana from the gross corruption and this insensitive government, so we opt to weed out the enemies within to ensure that.
