Address the worsened conditions of parliamentary drivers - NDC

The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend took a swipe at the leadership of Parliament, and called on the legislature to address the poor condition of service of drivers assigned to the Members of the House.

The Party described the monthly salaries of the Parliamentary drivers and the process of payment as an insult, unfortunate, and unacceptable and called on the House to do something about the situation.

A press statement signed by Mr Charles Akowuah Tuffour, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Communications Director of the NDC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, expressed regret that Parliamentary drivers had no office within the building.

“It is sad to know that the drivers received their monthly salaries on the table, are not enrolled on the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and do not receive any official allowance. Sometimes the drivers have to sit in the vehicles and wait for several hours during parliamentary proceedings,” it stated.

The statement noted that the future of many of the Parliamentary drivers remained bleak, as majority of the MPs abandoned them after serving their terms of offices.
