2020SOTN: Minority boycott was a prank that went bad – Freddie Blay

National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described the opposition NDC's decision to boycott the State of the Nation Address delivered by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as a prank that "unfortunately" did not go in favour of the Minority in Parliament.

Minority MPs clad in black chanted the last sentence of the National Anthem as they walked out of the chamber shortly after President Akufo-Addo took his seat Thursday morning in the chamber.

“And help us to resist oppressors’ rule with all our will, and might forevermore,” they chorused as they walked out of the chamber.

However, Freddie Blay said he was expecting more resistant actions from the Legislative representatives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and not only staging a walkout minutes before the president addressed the august house.

“I would have loved to see a little noise, a little heckling from their side. It makes it more interesting. Unfortunately, they lost…it was a prank that went bad,” he noted.

Addressing the media after President Akufo-Addo updated Parliament on the state of the nation, Freddie Blay heaped praises on the President, adding that his (president’s) submission was not only based on mere facts and data but has turned the fortunes of the country for the good since taking over in 2017.

Expressing confidence in Akufo-Addo’s stewardship, Blay asserted, “…this is not just talking but facts, data, all prove that from where he took it [Ghana] from 2017 to now, he did a very good job. NPP government under his leadership have performed and performed creditably. As he ended up, he said the economy is in good hands, the nation is in competent hands.”

He maintained that the government officials and the NPP are backing the president through “hard work” to “satisfy Ghanaians.”
