Job Description

Position Objective:

To carry out galley and mess room duties in specified areas and time frames.

Scope of Duties

  • Ensure that all mess room equipment is thoroughly cleaned, giving attention to polished surfaces and removal of food particles.
  • Ensure that the galley deck is free of spills and obstructions that could lead to accidents.
  • Comply with customer requests in a timely, friendly and efficient manner.
  • Ensure all deliveries are checked and stored in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure customer complaints are dealt with to the customer’s satisfaction or forwarded to your supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that the replenishment of customer required supplies are made in advance of customer requirements and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the storage of commodities as soon after delivery as possible.
  • Ensure that good stock rotation procedures are followed (first in, first out) to minimize the wastage of commodities.
  • Follow the cleaning schedule and the senior chef’s instructions in the periodic cleaning of galley and mess room equipment.
  • Ensure that the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that materials, such as chemicals are used in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions (Example: dilutions, storage, harmful effects etc).
  • Ensure compliance with all FM and client policies and procedures, including adherence to all health and safety standards, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure a healthy/safe & environmentally friendly working environment for yourself and other staff by adhering to the control measures implemented onboard.
  • Report any unhealthy/unsafe/non-environmental acts or conditions to the senior chef as soon as possible.
  • Ensure that defective equipment is reported to the appropriate person.
  • Participate in team meetings. Contribute ideas that will make the workplace healthier/safer more environmentally aware and more productive.
  • Participate in training sessions specific to your particular site or position.
  • Ensure regular communication is maintained with your line manager and any issues are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Carry out other duties as requested by your manager that could further enhance the overall service and efficient running of the catering operation.

Required Skills or Experience

  • Five years' relevant industry experience
  • Basic food hygiene
  • Certificate of medical fitness
  • Offshore survival
  • First aid (if applicable)
  • Experience
  • A basic working knowledge of the requirements of food hygiene and a willingness to gain skills in this area.
