GUNSA joins NYA to clean Korle Bu Maternity, Children's blocks

Accra, June 11, GNA - The Ghana United Nations Students Association (GUNSA) in Collaboration with the National Youth Authority (NYA), on Saturday organized students to clean the Maternity and Children blocks of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The clean-up exercise formed part of activities to commemorate the World Environment Day with the aim of educating the youth on environmental health, safety and cleanliness.

Mrs Sedina Tamakloe Attionu, Acting National Coordinator of the NYA said during the clean-up exercise that it was mandatory for all to keep the environment clean and that the youth as future leaders must get involve at all times.

She noted that working with the youth would inculcate in them the spirit of volunteerism, patriotism and nationalism.

The exercise was on the theme: 93volunteerism a national tool to development".

She advised the youth to make the exercise a continuous activity. Mrs Helina A. Quist, Senior Nursing Officer of Child Health at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital said she was overwhelmed by the level of youth participation.

Mr Kwashi Duvor, First National Vice President of GUNSA, said every year series of talk shows were organized to commemorate the Environmental Day.

Over 500 hundred students from 11 schools participated in the clean up.

The schools were Chemu Senior High, Our Lady of Mercy Senior High School, Osu Presbyterian Senior High School, Accra High Senior High School, Accra Academy Senior High School, Labone Senior High School, Accra Girls Senior High School, Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Ghana United Association and Wesley Grammar Senior High School.

Mr Frank Elinam Cobbinah a Musician known as Atumpan took part in the exercise.

According to him, his music focuses on lyrics that promote youth empowerment, adding that one of his songs is on cleanliness.
